Looking for a fun and easy science experiment that uses things already in your kitchen? This volcano science experiment is just that- fun, easy, and educational. This volcano science experiment is fun to do at home or would make a great science fair experiment for school .
For this volcano science experiment you’ll need:
- Empty water bottle (or you could use a skinny vase).
- Salt Dough or Playdoh
- Liquid Water Colors or Food Coloring
- Vinegar
- 6 Drops of Dish Soap
- 2 TBSP of Baking Soda
- Water
How to Make Your Volcano
Step 1- Put your empty water bottle in the center of a pan or cookie sheet to contain the eruption.
Step 2- Take your salt dough and build it up around the water bottle to look like a volcano, make sure not to cover your opening
Step 3– Pour warm water 3/4th of the way full in your water bottle, 6 drops of dish soap, 2 tablespoons baking soda to the liquid along with your liquid water colors or food coloring.
This would be a great time to discuss your hypothesis of what is going to happen. For even more fun, you can print this free scientific method printable and have your child write or draw a picture for each step of the scientific process.
Step 4- slowly pour vinegar in and see your volcano erupt!
We talked about our observations and then she wanted to do it again
This time she added food coloring as it erupted.
This science experiment was so much fun and easy to set up. It is a great way to walk about the scientific method and about reactions plus it is just fun!
